Kathleen & Tony’s Kitchen

Pronorm Y-line

The biggest factor to consider when designing Kathleen & Tony’s new kitchen was that they enjoy hosting events.

Before the redesign, they had seating for 22 guests – but this was split across two rooms. Their plan was to bring down the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining area to create one large open-plan space that would be ideal for entertaining, but would still have a homely feel for day-to-day cooking and living.

They were looking for modern, straight lines in a handleless range. Their chosen palette is bright and contemporary: a Matt Lacquer door in Pronorm’s Y-line range, with the base units in a warm ‘Agate Grey’ and the tall units in ‘Crystal’.

The smooth matt finish on the doors gives a luxurious feel which complements the slightly textured finish of the Dekton solid surface worktops in ‘Vegha’. This is a highly durable surface – scratch-proof, heat-resistant and very good looking.

Hardworking and flexible appliances were a must. Miele’s Pureline offers sleek and intuitive appliances that work perfectly within the room’s new layout. Our clients chose: a steam oven, a combination microwave and single oven, and a fully integrated coffee machine to complete the bank – perfect for post-dinner drinks.

The full-height integrated Miele fridge and freezer also provide maximum cooled storage, with the added benefit of an ice maker that can be switched on and off depending on storage requirements.

The island has an extended breakfast bar to allow for casual dining, which can double as extra worktop for plating up. This drops down to table height at the window for a more intimate dining experience.

Continuing the clean-lined look, the Bora ventilated induction hob is situated on the island and efficiently captures cooking vapours and odours at the source – negating the need for a visible extractor hood. Furthermore, the Quooker Flex boiling water tap means no kettle is required – keeping the worktops clear.

At the other end of the room, the twin wine fridges allow for storage of wine, spirits and mixers close to the dining table, while the TV unit provides additional storage for serving dishes and glasses.

The finishing touch is the generous LED lighting across the kitchen. The handle rail, under-unit and shelf lighting can all be dimmed and adjusted in warmth, and the ceiling lights offer different configurations which can change the atmosphere of the kitchen – to suit anything from weeknight cooking, to weekend entertaining.
